Day 1: Arrival at Litochoro

Day 1:    Arrival at Litochoro

Arrival and free time at Litochoro.

Day 2:    Transfer to Agios Dionysios and hiking

Route 1: Hiking from Agios Dionysios to Agapitos Refuge 

You will be transferred to the Monastery of Agios Dimitrios and you walk to Agapitos Refuge. The presence of the crystal clear water of the river makes hiking rewarding. You will cross the river many times via wooden bridges. The ascent through the gorge of Enipeas to Prionia cafe is gradual and demanding. The path is well marked and clean and leads to the shelter.

Total hiking distance: 8.9 km

Day 3:    Hiking Mouses Plateau

Route 2: Hiking on the Plateau of the Muses to the Kakkalos Refuge

A hefty ascent through alpine mountainous areas to the Skala summit. From this point you have a breathtaking view of Mytikas. Then over the ridge of Skala - Skolio - Mytikas to the highest point, Skolio summit at 2911m. Enjoy the view and descend from Zonaria to the Plateau of the Muses to Kakkalos Refuge.

Day 4:    Hiking to Koromilia Refuge

Route 3: Hiking to the shelter of Koromilia

From the Plateau of the Muses you reach the Giosos pass and descend to Laimos. Descend still further, cross the shaded paths to finally reach Koromilia Refuge where you spend the night. The path is mountainous, yet not very difficult.

Day 5:    Return from Koromilia Refuge

Route 4: Karomilia Shelter to Ag. Constantine

The descent begins via steep forest trails. In between the trees admire the beautiful views over the plains to the sea. Orlia stream is a lovely spot for a break. At Agios Konstantinos you will be picked up by a taxi and taken to Litochoro.

Papanikolaou Guesthouse

The guest house is open all year round and has 18 cozy rooms fully equipped, with bathroom, kitchen, TV, central heating, air conditioning, free wifi.

Spilios Agapitos Refuge

This stone refuge is situated on the E4 route at an altitude of 2100 meters. It is well equipped and can accommodate up to 110 guests. It is also known as the Zolota refuge. It is a quiet place to spend some quality time on the mountains.

Christos Kakkalos Refuge

It is located on the Plateau of the Muses at an altitude of 2650m. It was named after Christos Kakkalos who together with two Swiss climbers made the first recorded ascent to Mytikas on 2/8/1913.

Koromilia Refuge

Koromila Refuge consists of a guest house and a restaurant, and it is located at an altitude of 1020 m in the Olympus National Park - Rema Orlia.

Emergency service

The mountain huts are not accessible by car. You will have to carry your items in a backpack. There is luggage storage service at the guesthouse in Litochoro and you can pick up your luggage on the last day before your return home.

TraveLocal can issue the train tickets for either Litochoro or Katerini. Litochoro is closer and the taxi is cheaper, but the you need to change trains in Larissa and there is waiting time. Katerini is further away but you do not change trains at all.

Practical Info

You can travel to Litochoro by car. However, in order to reduce your ecological footprint it is better to take the train from Athens or Thessaloniki.

For your transfers on the second and the last day, there will be a taxi that we use for the transfers of our clients, so you don't need to worry.

Also note that from one refuge to the other you should have the necessary clothing with you. The rest of the clothes and personal belongings can be left at Papanikolaou Guesthouse.
