Day 2: We suggest 2 routes to choose the one you like

Day 1:    Arrival in Kalambaka and circular route

Route 1: circular route

After arriving by train in Kalampaka, Kastraki is about 1 km from there and you go by taxi or bus. For the first day I suggest an afternoon circular route to unwind. It is a classic impressive walk. Shortly after the hotel you go out on the main road and you go straight through the school of Kastraki and you gradually reach a dirt road outside the village. This dirt road leads to the main road of the monasteries.

Exiting the main road you can go left and turn back passing by the first monastery of Ag. Nikolaos, or you can go across with the map in your hand and go up to Megalo Meteoro. Through a fairytale cobbled path you walk through the gorge and end up at Megalo Meteoro. It will most likely be closed but it doesn't matter as you will visit it on your second day. You go down the same road and walk back to Kastraki.

Total hiking distance: 7 km

Day 2:    We suggest 2 routes to choose the one you like

We have chosen two different routes for you. You can choose the one that suits you best or even do both. Both start from Kastraki.

Kastraki-Agia Triada-Kalampaka-Kastraki

Breattaking walk in the quietest parts of Meteora. Shortly after leaving the village of Kastraki you go up through a forest path. You will admire the vertical rocks and the picturesque view. After a downhill route you reach the paved path from Kalambaka to the Monastery of Agia Triada. From there go up to the Monastery. Then walk down through unpaved tracks to return to Kastraki.

Total hiking distance: 9 km

Kastraki - Ypapanti - Megalo Meteora - Varlaam - Kastraki

A must-do, stunning walk along the unknown to most people Ypapanti Monastery and the most popular monasteries of Meteora. Go up to the first monastery from a concrete road which is parallel to the main road and then turn right on a unpaved road to reach the abandoned Monastery of Ypapanti. Then a beautiful path leads you to the Great Meteoro and through the asphalt road to Barlaam. Return to Kastraki through the same route.

Total hiking distance: 10 km

Day 3:    Return and transfer to the train station

The taxi driver will take you to Kalampaka station to pick up the train at 17.15.
